People around the world who were born without a
pair of dimples are now undergoing surgery to
make sure they can boast of having one.
Women with dimples
Once, a boob job was the height of plastic surgery
innovation.
These days of course, there’s not a part of our
bodies that surgeons haven’t modified.
We can have fuller lips. Bigger bums. Tighter
labias. The world of doll-like beauty really is ever
evolving.
So with that in mind, prepare yourself for the
newest hot trend: dimpleplasty.
Dimpleplasty is – you guessed it – where
dimples are artificially created via little indents in
your cheeks. And it’s on the rise among
millennials.
According to Allure, plastic surgeons in America
have seen almost a tripling in the number of
millennial-aged patients coming forward asking
for the procedure – presumably influenced by the
likes of Miranda Kerr and Blac Chyna.
It’s minimally invasive and takes about 30
minutes
So…how does it work (do we dare ask)?
A small incision is made inside the patient’s
mouth ‘where a defect is created in the cheek
muscle, known as the buccinator,’ plastic surgeon
Wright Jones tells the magazine.
‘The muscle is then attached to the undersurface
of the skin so that the dimples are seen upon
animation, but not when the face is relaxed.’
Following surgery, patients are left with semi-
permanent dimples for up to two months, along
with a little swelling and discomfort.
And after that, the tissue settles and the dimples
can only be seen when smiling.
So, how much does it cost to have some holes
cut in your cheeks?
Depending on the difficulty of the surgery,
anywhere between $800 (£615) and $2,500
(£1,923).
