FG to Spend N56m Daily to Feed 800,000 Kaduna Pupils

The homegrown feeding programme in Kaduna
State alone will cost the Nigerian government a
whooping N1.1billion every month.

The Federal Government’ s Home Grown School
Feeding Programme has commenced in Kaduna
State on July 25, a director in the State Ministry of
Education, Science and Technology, Mr. John
Gora, says.
Gora, who oversees the programme, said on
Monday in Kaduna that about 800,000 pupils
would be fed at N70 per meal.
According to him, the government will spend
about N56m daily, N280m a week and N1.1bn
every month in feeding the pupils.
The director said that out of the 20,146 vendors
shortlisted for the programme, only 9,000 would
participate.
“Based on the arrangement, the federal
government will feed primary one to three pupils,
while the state government will feed primary four
to six pupils.
“However if you remember, in 2016, when the
programme was implemented in the state, the
state government fed all the pupils from primary
one to primary six at the cost of over N10bn.
“It shouldered the responsibility of the federal
government on the agreement that the federal
government would refund to the state the amount
it spent on feeding primary one to three pupils.
“The amount was about seven billion and so far,
the federal government has refunded N3.5bn to
the state.”
Gora said that as soon as the federal government
refund the remaining balance, the state would
commence the feeding of primary 4-6 pupils. He
said that the 20,146 vendors were supposed to
provide services to both the state and the federal
government components.
“So far, only 9000 vendor accounts have been
verified, while the remaining vendors are being
processed.
“I am sure we will complete the verification
process before the state government’s component
comes on stream,’’ the director said.
He acknowledged that the programme was,
however, experiencing some challenges.
“From the report on my table, some vendors were
posted to different communities, far away from
home and this is a problem for us.
“For example, some vendors were posted to a
primary school in Maraban Jos instead of schools
in their community as planned.
“Out of suspicion, the parents of the pupils
stopped their children from eating the food on the
grounds that the vendors were not from that
community and so should not be trusted.
“We are however doing all we can to address this
and other challenges,’’ Gora added.
Meanwhile, Dr Adebayo Dotun, the programme’s
Operation Manager, said that more than 200
people were being trained to monitor and ensure
the success of the programme.
“After the one-day training, these trainees would
go out to the field to ensure that the women are
cooking, the quality of the food is adequate, the
quantity and hygiene are maintained,’’ Dotun
said.

Nathaniel Bassey is definitely one of the most coveted worship leaders from this part of the world. Not only does he sing excellently, he blows the trumpet too and he is good at it.

Some days back, he uploaded a picture that showed him playing the trumpet 20 years ago and him doing the same thing now. He also did not waste time in dishing out some life lessons learned from his life and sojourn as a music minister over the past 20 years.

Neymar: Barcelona consider reporting PSG over 222m euros deal

Neymar signed a new deal with Barcelona last year
which tied him to the club until 2021
Barcelona expect Neymar to return to training on
Wednesday, but are ready to push for a Financial
Fair Play investigation if Paris St-Germain pay the
222m euros (£198m) release clause for the Brazil
forward.

The 25-year-old continues to be linked with a
move to the Ligue 1 club and is due to return from
China on Tuesday.

Reports said the player was due in Qatar this week
for a PSG medical.

Barca chief Josep Maria Bartomeu said last week
that Neymar would be staying.

His comments came after reports that PSG had
triggered the release clause, which would be a
world record fee for a player.

Should that sum be offered, the 24-time Spanish
champions will ask Uefa to consider whether the
French club would be in breach of FFP regulations.

The rules, first implemented during the 2011-12
season, stipulate that European clubs cannot
spend more than they earned.

PSG, supported by a Qatar fund, were punished in
2014 for breach of FFP. Their £167m commercial
contract with the Qatar Tourism Authority was
deemed to have an unfair value by Uefa's
independent investigation panel.

They were given a £20m fine, their spending was
capped to £49m and they competed in the
2014-15 Champions League with just 21 players
instead of the usual 25.

FFP regulations - updated in June 2015 - state
that owners can inject cash into a club as long as
they can demonstrate how they will reach break-
even.

Angelina Jolie denies 'cruel' Cambodia child auditions

Angelina Jolie has fiercely denied playing tricks on
Cambodian children while casting for a film.

The actress and UN special envoy recruited local
children to star in her film about Cambodia's
Khmer Rouge, First They Killed My Father.

She spoke to Vanity Fair about the film and
explained how they used a casting game which
involved giving money to poor children then taking
it away.

The interview caused outrage, with many accusing
Jolie of being "exploitative".

In it, Jolie explains how the directors looked
through slums and orphanages to find actors for
the film, and were "specifically seeking children
who had experienced hardship".

'Overwhelmed with emotion'
Their casting game saw children being asked to
snatch some money, and then when caught, come
up with a lie for why they stole it.
"Srey Moch [who was selected for the lead role]
was the only child that stared at the money for a
very, very long time," Jolie told the magazine.

"When she was forced to give it back, she became
overwhelmed with emotion... When she was asked
later what the money was for, she said her
grandfather had died, and they didn't have enough
money for a nice funeral."

Angelina Jolie on Cambodia, politics and a
'difficult year'

Jolie, who directed the Netflix film, said it was
"false and upsetting" that people misinterpreted
her description of the casting process.
"I am upset that a pretend exercise in an
improvisation, from an actual scene in the film, has
been written about as if it was a real scenario,"
Jolie said in a statement.

She added: "The point of this film is to bring
attention to the horrors children face in war and to
help fight to protect them. The suggestion that real
money was taken from a child during an audition
is false and upsetting. I would be outraged myself
if this had happened."
"Every measure was taken to ensure the safety,
comfort and well-being of the children on the film
starting from the auditions through production to
the present," she said.

First They Killed My Father is Jolie's directorial
debut for streaming giant Netflix.
It is based on a true-life account of a survivor of
the Khmer Rouge genocide and is told through the
eyes of a child.

Jolie told the BBC earlier this year that she hoped
the film would help Cambodians speak more
openly about their period of trauma.
'Taken out of context'
Jolie's controversial account of casting drew
outrage among many, with social media users
calling it "emotionally abusive and cruel".

"Angelina Jolie has gone too far," wrote one
woman on Facebook. "For someone who
constantly declares her love for Cambodia and
children, this was a sick and depraved stunt she
pulled. Some philanthropist she is."
"Child abuse" was how one Facebook user
described it, slamming Jolie's "authentic methods"
of casting. "You are no longer welcome in my
world. You didn't realise you were dealing with
children with post-traumatic syndrome (PTSD) and
poverty?"
But some fans stood by Jolie's defence.

"This all sounds like it was taken out of context,"
said Nathalie Anderson. "She is a humanitarian
and I believe she would never traumatise children
like that."

Herbalist, Two Others Arrested For Circulating Fake Naira, Dollar Notes

Herbalist, Two Others Arrested
For Circulating Fake Naira, Dollar
Notes
Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil
Defence Corps in Niger State have arrested a
herbalist and two others for allegedly circulating
fake naira and dollar notes.

The herbalist, Rabiu Abubakar, 36, and Sadiq
Ibrahim, 30, from Kano and Zamfara States
respectively were arrested alongside one Hussaini
Hassan in Minna in connection with the crime.

The state NSCDC commandant, Mr. Philip Ayuba,
who disclosed this to Northern City News on
Sunday, said Abubakar and Ibrahim were nabbed
with fake $400,000 notes.

According to Ayuba, Abubakar had asked his
victim to provide N20,000 which he promised to
double in dollars.

The victim reportedly provided the amount, after
which the herbalist handed him a carton and
directed him not to open it until he got home.

The commandant said when the victim opened
the carton at home, it was filled with fake
American dollars with sawdust underneath the
notes.

Ayuba explained that the second suspect, Sadiq,
was apprehended at the bridge after Mobil
Roundabout in Minna where he was waiting for a
victim whom he had asked to provide N300,000.

The commandant said it was discovered that both
Abubakar and Ibrahim were accomplices.

He said Hassan, who was arrested with N16,000
in fake N1,000 notes in Minna, was still being
investigated.

“As soon as investigations are completed, the
suspects would either be handed over to the
police or charged to court,” Ayuba said.

I will go to Kaduna& Lagos; Ohanaeze will cease to exist come 19th of November- Nnamdi Kanu

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB),
Nnamdi Kanu, has said that he will be visiting
Kaduna and Lagos state as part of his tour of
various states in the country.
He said this while addressing IPOB members
gathered at his father's compound in Isiama
Afara Ukwu, Umuahia, Abia state on Sunday. He
proceeded to accuse certain media houses of
printing lies about the group and also warned
his followers to boycott the upcoming Anambra
election and all other elections in the South-
Eastern states.
Kanu said: "Some media houses in Lagos don’t
understand how powerful IPOB is. They sit
down and write rubbish. So, I will go to Lagos
to rattle them. I understand some people are
worried.
"Don’t Yoruba Pastors come here? Don’t they
come here to pray? Some of you worship at
Yoruba churches and contribute your money
there. Is that not so? That is why they don’t
want you to be free. We want you to be free;
because if you are free, you won’t contribute
money for them. If you are free, how can they
send their children abroad?"
He went on to say that he does things that
people think are impossible to do, and that he
would ensure that Ohanaeze Ndigbo ceases to
exist come 19th of November 2017.
"Come the 19th of November, Ohanaeze Ndigbo
will cease to exist. They drove themselves
away. I am not in competition with anybody. My
father is a traditional title holder. So, I am not
going to disrespect anybody. I formed, by
myself, the Council of Elders of the People of
Biafra.
"The thing that are impossible to do, that is
what I want to do. That is who I am. The thing
that will happen in 20 years to come, let it
happen now. We don’t fear our enemies. That is
why I will go to Lagos to preach this gospel. I
will do it. My friend, Comrade John Danfulani
came to see me here and he invited me to
Kaduna. I will also go to Kaduna".

Buhari has made Nigeria a laughing stock – Reno Omokri reacts to CNN quiz

Former Special Assistant to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan on New Media, Reno Omokri, says President Muhammadu Buhari has turned Nigeria into a laughing stock.

Omokri, a fierce critic of the Buhari’s administration, made the remark while reacting to a question posed by Cable News Network, CNN – “The head of State of which country has not set foot in his home land in the past two months?”

Nigeria was listed among as option C, while Saudi Arabia, Cuba and Syria were on the list.

Omokri, who took to his twitter handle, wrote: “Look at how President Muhammadu Buhari has turned Nigeria into the laughing stock of the world on @CNN ! Look at the challenge question!”

The former Presidential aide also described Buhari as a hypocrite.

“If you don’t believe PMB is a hypocrite, please look at these headlines. Nigeria has learnt the hard way that change is not always progress!,” he added.

Klopp: Neymar price a game-change

The Reds manager labelled the Coutinho exit-talk as merely 'rumours' and went on to discuss the Neymar deal that he feels would have a profound and lasting impact on world football.

"There are so many rumours around. Only one of them is the Coutinho rumour," he told the Liverpool Echo.

"If Neymar is not a rumour then pfff... it's more than the next level, it's really not from this planet anymore," he said of the transfer that would see Paris Saint-Germain part with a jaw-dropping €222m to cover the Brazil international's release clause.

"Really? Two hundred and twenty-two million Euros? I can't believe that something like this would happen. But if it does happen then it changes everything actually," the former Dortmund manager added.

Amidst continued silence from both Paris Saint-Germain and the player himself over the deal which is reportedly on the verge of being finalised, new Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde has been the only role player to speak out about it.

Following their 2-1 win over Juventus on Saturday, Valverde urged the club's board to do what they can to prevent the sale of the player who scored both his side's goals.

"Barcelona will not do without Neymar," he told he told reporters after the match.

"We want him to be with us and we know the impact he has in our game. It's clear."

Shocker: Lightning Bolt Strikes Hard, Kills 11, Leaves 15 Injured

At least 11 people have been killed by a lightning bolt in eastern India.

This is as large swathes of the country reel under the worst floods in years that have left hundreds dead and millions displaced, officials said on Monday.

According to a report by Agence France Presse, AFP, the victims were working in fields in Odisha state when lightning bolts struck them, the state’s top disaster management official said. Fifteen people were injured on top of the 11 dead.
“The death toll is likely to rise as many were critically injured,” A.K. Das, head of the authority, told AFP.

The state has also been badly hit by floods and another three bodies were found in Jajpur district, taking the region’s toll from the deluge to seven in 48 hours.

Torrential rains have wreaked havoc across several other Indian states, damaging roads and electricity networks, with nearly 700 dead reported across the country.

As many as 20 states have suffered in the current monsoon season that began in June.

In the western state of Gujarat, 213 people have been killed in weeks of flooding, state disaster management said.

The deaths almost doubled to its present level at the weekend with about 100 bodies found after water started receding.

Suresh Kumar, West Bengal’s top disaster management official, said at least 31 deaths were reported in a week of flooding in the state.
“Heavy rains have caused massive damage in several districts,” Kumar told AFP.

Landslides and flash floods in the north-eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam since April have left dozens dead, while the eastern states of Jharkhand and Bihar have also been badly hit, with nearly 140 lightning deaths reported in Bihar since May.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a radio address on Sunday that necessary help was being provided.

Lightning kills thousands of Indians every year, especially during the June-October monsoon, with most of them farmers working the fields.

AEDC donates N500, 000 to support family blessed with quintuplets

ABUJA Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC, in a show of rare Corporate Social Responsibility CRS has donated a Cheque of N500, 000 to the family of quintuplets delivered at the National Hospital, Abuja. Director Corporate Services, of AEDC Engr Abimbola Odubiyi who represented the Managing Director of the AEDC, Mr. Ernest Mupwaya made the presentation to Mr Imudia Uduehi, the father of the children at the weekend in Abuja. According to him, “the AEDC decided to join other concerned Nigerians to help out in catering for the children because the organisation believes in Social Corporate Responsibility as one of its core values.” He described the children as special gifts from God which deserve the supports of well meaning Nigerians. He also encouraged the parents of the children to bring up the children in the fear of the Lord and should not be discouraged because of the economic condition of the country now but should trust God to make provisions needed to train them. Speaking on behalf of the family, the father of the children, Mr Uduehi, appreciated the gesture of AEDC for donating such huge amount. He said that the money came as encouragement to the family. He also appreciated many other Nigerians who had been coming forward to assist in one way or the other in supporting the upkeep of the family since the blessing of the quadruplets came. Dr Ugo Udo, EFAB property manager said the gesture was not planned but was to support the head of service in fulfilling her promise. He added that it was a way of carrying out their own social responsibility and giving back to the community what the company has been benefiting. Also Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki had visited Mr. and Mrs. Imudia Uduehi, over the blessing of the quintuplets in Abuja. A statement by the Chief Press Secretary, Mr. John Mayaki, said: “Governor Obaseki, on hearing the news, visited the family through a representative and supported them with N1 million.

Shocker: CNN mocks Nigeria over Buhari’s continued absence in country

The United States television medium, Cable News Network, CNN, has mocked Nigeria in its latest edition of “The Global Public Square (GPS)”, a foreign affairs show anchored on CNN by Fareed Zakaria.

In an apparent mockery of Nigeria and her President Muhammadu Buhari, CNN, on its programme displayed at 4:59pm local time on Sunday said, “The head of state from which country has not set foot in his homeland in over two months?”

It went ahead to tick an option with the name Nigeria as the correct answer. The options were given as Saudi Arabia, Cuba, Nigeria and Syria.

A screenshot of the mockery tweeted by Chidi Odinkalu, Former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is given below.

What do you say Nigerians? Type your comments below please.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari has been in London since May 7 on a medical follow-up. Badoo members strike in Ikorodu, butcher man, wife, two children

The notorious ritual cult group, Badoo, Sunday struck in Ikorodu area of Lagos State, killing a couple and two of their children.

The couple were identified as Mr. and Mrs. Adejare. The third kid was said to be in a coma at the Ikorodu General Hospital.

The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday in Oke Ota community, Ibeshe. The children were reportedly aged between five and one. Two of them were identified as Siyin and Ajoke, all females, Punch reports.

A resident of the area was quoted as saying that the incident became known around 12pm when church members of the deceased checked on them on the way from church.

He said, “They had a special programme in their church today (Sunday). The members decided to check on them because they did not come to the church. They found the whole family in a pool of blood and raised the alarm. One of the three children was still breathing. He was rushed to the general hospital.

“There are burglar-proof bars on the windows in the house, except in the kitchen. They came through the kitchen. They tore the net and entered the house.

“We seem to have relaxed in securing the community because the attack subsided for some time. Even the police patrol has reduced.”

“The apartment was given to them by the church. The couple were on the bed, while the children slept on mats. Four of them were killed. Their corpses have been deposited in the Ikorodu General Hospital mortuary,” he added.

Reacting to the incident, however, the Lagos State police spokesperson, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, said the killings might have no connection with the Badoo cult, adding that the location of the family’s residence was not accessible to vehicles.

He said, “The house is just a room and parlour with one open window and no visible form of security. A family of five were attacked. Three died on the spot, one died while receiving treatment at a hospital and the last member is alive and responding to treatment.

“No visible trace of violence or clues linked to the cult was found. No stone was found at the scene. A case of murder is being investigated by police detectives, which doesn’t fit in the modus operandi of the cult.”
